Car Review: 2018 #BMW 640i xDrive Gran Turismo

Base Price – $69,700

Total Price – $84,000 (Upgrades & Destination Charge)

23 MPG (20 city/28 highway) – GREAT gas mileage

The 640i GT isn’t a station wagon and it isn’t a crossover, so I’ll just say it’s a super fancy sedan.

The upgraded Bluestone Metallic color ($550) and standard Cognac Dakota Leather were a great color combo

Standard Features:

  • 3.0 Liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6 cylinder with Eco Pro, Comfort & Sport modes
  • Panoramic sunroof makes the interior spacious & makes me happy!
  • Front & rear seats are well shaped and comfy!
  • BMW Navigation
  • Rear passengers are pampered with loads of legroom
  • Standard Intelligent Rear View Mirror (I-RVM)2, which uses a high-resolution camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle to project a clear image onto an LCD monitor built into the standard rearview mirror. It was a little busy but I liked it!
  • Front & rear seats are well shaped and comfy!
  • Standard gorgeous Dakota Cognac leather interior

Upgrades:

With over $20k in upgrades, you can bet this car was a treat to drive. To name a few:
  • Driver Assistance Plus – $1700 – Well worth it! Collision Warning feature, lane departure warning/lane keeping assit. Active cruise control, 3D surround fiew, Park Assist – so many great features that help with safety and road fatigue.
  • Dynamic Handling – $4100 – The Dynamic Handling package adds active roll stabilization, height-adjustable air springs that are new to the 640idynamic shock control, and rear-wheel steering. All of that combines for a zero-to-60 speed of 5.1 seconds
  • M Sport Package – $1200 – Upgraded wheels, SenseTec Dashboard – wood trim interior, shadowline exterior trim – definitely something tBMW fans & owners would want
  • Executive Package – $2150 – Includes a lot of great camera tech, heads up display & parking assistance
  • Power Seat Back Adjustment – $500 – perfect if you have frequent back seat passengers
  • Remote Control Parking – $750 – uhhh fun! You literally can just stand outside the car & park it. Seemed to work well
  • Harmon Kardon Sound – $875 – bumping that bass was FUN in this thing.

Zombie Apocalyse Rating: C

Obviously being a sedan, it’s not practical BUT, hey, 335 horsepower? Now that’s some SPEED – this would be good for quick trips to the abandoned Costco somewhere off a highway where you can see if there is still any wine left (we hope so).

20 MPG average and an 18 gallon gas tank will get you about 360 miles so plan accordingly.

My opinion – With the base price of $69k, there seemed to be less luxuries included (such as heated steering wheel, seats, etc) but the panoramic sunroof is standard (which I loooove). Many of the upgrades were definitely worth it but it did make the price go quite a bit higher. An upgrade of $650 for ceramic controls seemed a bit excessive but then again, this car is all about luxury. And, of course, I love how BMW cars perform. Thank you BMW and Automotive Media Solutions for the loan in exchange for my very opinionated opinion!
